01 Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using StudyShare, including creating an account, browsing content, or subscribing to Sofia AI, you agree to these Terms & Conditions in full. If you do not agree to any part of these terms, you may not use the service.

These terms apply to all users — whether you're browsing free study materials or paying for Sofia AI features. Your continued use of StudyShare after any updates to these terms signals your acceptance of the revised terms.

02 What is StudyShare?

StudyShare is an Intelligent University Ecosystem connecting 10,000+ Kenyan students to academic resources. Your University. Connected. Intelligent.

We provide instant access to:

• Comprehensive resource library: Lecture notes, exam papers, and study guides from Kenyan universities and schools—instantly accessible whenever you need them.
• Sofia AI: Your personal academic assistant powered by advanced AI. Sofia generates summaries, answers questions, creates practice questions, and helps clarify course concepts in seconds.
• Connected study tools: Flashcards, reading lists, and collaborative features that keep you connected with your peers and resources.

StudyShare is built by Kognitiv Analytica and operates in Kenya, serving thousands of students in their academic journey.

03 Account & access

Creating an account: You must be at least 13 years old to create a StudyShare account. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or guardian has consented to your use of the service.

Accurate information: When you sign up, you agree to provide accurate, complete information. You are responsible for keeping your password and login credentials confidential and for all activity that occurs under your account.

Email verification: To access full features, you must verify your email address. University email addresses are recommended to unlock institution-specific content and discounts.

Account termination: You may delete your account at any time through account settings. Once deleted, your account cannot be recovered, though we may retain anonymized data for analytics and compliance purposes.

04 Subscriptions & billing

Sofia AI subscription: Sofia AI is available on a flexible subscription basis. Your subscription grants you access to the Sofia AI assistant and all platform features:

Important: Your subscription covers access to the service and AI assistant. All study documents on StudyShare are free and remain accessible to all users regardless of subscription status. You are not paying per document.

Payment processing: Payments are processed through M-Pesa (Safaricom Daraja API). We do not store your payment card details; all transactions are handled securely by our payment processor.

Auto-renewal: Monthly subscriptions automatically renew on the same day each month. You will receive an SMS confirmation before each renewal. You can cancel auto-renewal at any time in your account settings — cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

Refunds & disputes: Daily passes are non-refundable once activated. If a monthly subscription is purchased in error or a payment fails, contact us within 7 days with proof of transaction, and we will issue a credit or refund. Refunds are processed to your original payment method within 5–7 business days.

Grace period: If your subscription lapses, you have 30 days to reactivate at no penalty. After 30 days, your saved notes and progress remain private but will require a new subscription to access.

Price changes: We may update subscription prices with 30 days' notice via email. Existing subscribers retain their current price for the remainder of their active subscription cycle.

05 Free content library

Content availability: StudyShare provides access to lecture notes, exam papers, and study guides from Kenyan universities and secondary schools. These materials are made available on StudyShare to improve student access to quality educational resources.

What you're paying for: Sofia AI subscriptions (KES 20/day or KES 100/month) grant you access to the platform and the AI assistant. The subscription fee covers the service and AI functionality—not the individual documents themselves. Documents remain free to access on StudyShare for all users.

Your usage rights: You may download and use materials from StudyShare for personal study only. Redistribution, reselling, or sharing materials outside the platform is prohibited and may violate intellectual property rights.

Accuracy disclaimer: StudyShare content is provided "as-is." We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or currency of all materials. Always verify critical information with your lecturer or official course materials.

06 Sofia AI assistant

What Sofia AI does: Sofia is an AI-powered assistant that generates summaries, answers questions, explains concepts, and creates practice questions based on StudyShare materials and general knowledge.

Not a substitute for learning: Sofia's responses are generated by machine learning and may contain inaccuracies, outdated information, or incomplete explanations. Sofia responses:

• Should never replace your textbook, lecture notes, or lecturer's guidance.
• Are not guaranteed to reflect the exact scope of your course or exam.
• Should be verified against official course materials before being used in assignments or presentations.

Practice questions: Sofia-generated practice questions are not actual exam content and are not affiliated with your institution's examination board. Use them as a study aid only; do not assume they predict exam questions.

Academic integrity: Using Sofia AI during a live, proctored, or invigilated exam is a violation of academic integrity policies at most institutions and may result in disciplinary action. Sofia is intended for independent study, homework help, and revision outside of formal assessments.

Data retention: Questions you ask Sofia are stored to improve the service and for safety monitoring. Your data is not shared with third parties or used for marketing without your consent.

07 Acceptable use

You agree not to use StudyShare for:

• Academic dishonesty: Submitting Sofia AI responses or platform materials as your own work in assignments, exams, or coursework. Sharing your account during assessments or exams.
• Illegal activity: Any use that violates local laws or regulations, including copyright infringement or unauthorized redistribution of proprietary materials.
• Abuse: Harassment, threats, or discriminatory behavior toward other users, educators, or StudyShare staff.
• System abuse: Attempting to reverse-engineer, hack, or circumvent platform security. Scraping, mass-downloading, or automating data collection without permission.
• Misrepresentation: Pretending to be someone else or creating fake accounts to access materials you are not eligible for.
• Account sharing: Sharing login credentials with others or selling access to your subscription.

Violation consequences: Violations may result in immediate account suspension or termination, loss of access to paid features, and referral to your institution's academic integrity officer if applicable.

08 Intellectual property

Study materials: All lecture notes, exam papers, and study guides displayed on StudyShare are protected intellectual property and remain the property of their original creators and institutions.

Sofia AI outputs: Responses generated by Sofia AI are provided for your personal use. You may use Sofia's responses in your own work with attribution (e.g., "Summarized with Sofia AI"), but you may not republish or redistribute Sofia's responses without permission.

StudyShare platform: The StudyShare platform, logo, design, and features are owned by Kognitiv Analytica and protected by copyright. You may not reproduce, modify, or distribute any part of the platform without written permission.

Your feedback: If you submit feedback, suggestions, or user-generated content to StudyShare, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to use that content to improve our service.

09 Suspension & termination

When we may suspend your account: We may immediately suspend access if you:

• Violate these terms or our acceptable use policy.
• Engage in academic dishonesty or misuse of Sofia AI.
• Are reported by your institution for policy violations.
• Engage in harassment or abusive behavior.

Notice & appeal: We will attempt to notify you of the reason for suspension and provide an opportunity to appeal within 7 days. If you believe your account was suspended in error, email support@studyshare.online with details of your case.

Paid subscriptions: If your account is terminated while you have an active monthly subscription, we will refund any unused portion of your subscription on a pro-rata basis.

Voluntary termination: You may request to terminate your account at any time. Termination is permanent and cannot be reversed.

10 Liability

Service provided "as-is": StudyShare is provided "as-is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

No guarantees on accuracy: We are not liable for inaccuracies, incompleteness, or outdated information in content provided through the platform or generated by Sofia AI. This includes academic harm resulting from reliance on platform materials.

Limitation: In no case shall StudyShare or Kognitiv Analytica be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including lost grades, academic penalties, or lost business, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability is limited to the fees you paid to StudyShare in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Third-party content: StudyShare is not responsible for third-party services, payment processors, or external links. Your use of third-party services is governed by their terms.

11 Updates to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes in our service, applicable law, or other factors. Material changes will be announced via email at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use of StudyShare after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.

A revision history is maintained on this page, and the "Effective" date always reflects the most recent update.

12 Dispute resolution

Informal resolution: If you have a dispute with StudyShare, please contact us first at support@studyshare.online with a detailed description of the issue. We will attempt to resolve it within 14 days.

Governing law: These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any legal action or arbitration arising out of these terms shall be brought exclusively in the courts of Nairobi, Kenya.

Escalation: If informal resolution is unsuccessful, either party may escalate to mediation or binding arbitration under the rules of the East African Arbitration Association.
